How Often Do I Need to Visit My Orthodontist During Invisalign Treatment?

If you’ve recently started Invisalign treatment, you might be wondering how often you need to visit your orthodontist to keep things on track. One of the perks of Invisalign is that it requires fewer office visits than traditional braces, but regular check-ins are still important to ensure everything is progressing smoothly.

Orthodontist During Invisalign Treatment

Initial Consultation and Treatment Plan

Your first appointment is where it all begins. During this visit, your orthodontist will take X-rays, photos, and a 3D scan of your teeth. This information helps them create a detailed treatment plan, including how long your treatment will take and the number of aligners you’ll need! Don’t worry, though; our amazing Los Angeles orthodontists are as good as they get! Understanding the pros and cons of Invisalign during this initial visit will ensure you feel confident about the treatment process and what to expect.

Regular Check-Ins: Every 6-18 Weeks

Once you have your aligners, you’ll typically need to visit your orthodontist every 6 to 18 weeks. We know this is a very broad range, but we customize treatment plans and visits to your specific needs. For example, there are some patients with more difficult cases who we will want to follow up with more frequently. At the same time, we also have patients who live abroad and check in via virtual visits every 3-4 months. These appointments are quick, usually involve making sure your teeth are moving as they should be, and offer a chance to discuss how easy it is to clean and care for your aligners. We will also give you the next set of aligners and make any necessary adjustments to your treatment plan.

What Happens at These Appointments?

At these visits, we will:

  • Check that your aligners are fitting properly
  • Ensure your teeth are shifting as planned
  • Address any concerns or discomfort you might have
  • If you stick to your treatment plan and wear your aligners for 20-22 hours a day, these check-ups should be pretty routine!

Can I Go Longer Between Visits?

Depending on how your treatment is going, we may recommend longer intervals between visits. This can be helpful if you have a busy schedule, but it’s important to ensure you follow up regularly. Sometimes, we can even arrange virtual visits if you’d like to disrupt your daily schedule as little as possible.

Wrapping It Up

Invisalign is designed to be convenient, but regular orthodontist check-ins (in-person or virtual) are key to ensuring your treatment stays on track. If you’re unsure or feel like something isn’t quite right, don’t hesitate to contact us between appointments. After all, we’re here to help you achieve your best smile!
